There is no doubt that Adobe's Flash multimedia format has become a standard of today's internet. Flash is ideal for delivery of advertising messages, elegant slideshows, and embedding video feeds.
Flash content is currently limited in its effective scope, however, due to the fact that it cannot be indexed by the major search engines.
A common mistake made by designers is the use of Flash content for navigational purposes and/or page layouts. Because the major search engines can't read the content within Flash, your content is 'invisible' to the search engines, and therefore not working for you effectively.
